Alaoha Fairy accesses its action scripts via FTP. It is therefor essential that your Network contains a FTP Server as well which you can find in nearly all Windows Versions.
Please note that if you plan to use a Linux based TFTPD and FTP Server you need to install SAMBA on that machine since the Aloaha Fairy Management Console uses the rootdirs of the services to store its configuration files. A huge advantage of this is that you can manage your network remotely.
Installation:
Open fairy.zip and execute fairy.exe. After successful installation please open the Fairy Management Console from the Aloaha Program Group in the Windows Start Menu. Now it is essential to configure the directory settings. More details in section "Directory Settings". Since Fairy is based on a diskless linux system you need to install the Kernel and Ramdisk. Open the Windows Start Menu and start "Install Fairy Kernel" from the Aloaha Program Group.
(Please note that this might take a while since the File is approx 20MB)
Now you are nearly ready. If you don't want to enter your network MAC Addresses manual you can do an automatic scan now. Open the Fairy Mangement Console, go to Fairy Tools / MAC Scanner and scan your subnet.
Last but not least just close the config and open it again. That's it.
Directory Settings:
TFTP SERVER:
Here you need to fill in the IP Number of your TFTP Server. If you don't have one installed download and install TFTPD32. The IPNumber is needed by Fairy to be able to rewrite the Boot Scripts automatically.
TFTP Root:
Here you need to fill in the path to your tftp folder how it is seen from a TFTP Client. Usually it is just: / or empty. This is needed by Fairy to be able to rewrite the KERNEL Parameter of your clients fully automated.
TFTP UNC:
Here you need to fill in the windows path of your TFTP Root Dir. It might be c:\tftpboot\ or \\<your server>\c$\tftpboot\ depending on the server you are using. The path is needed to be able to access the BOOTPTAB and other configuration files.
BOOTIMAGE:
Should always be initrd.gz. Please note that this will be the default image. Later on you can assign other different images to the Fairy Groups. For example to boot a DOS Image.
KERNEL:
Should always be kernel. Please note that this will be the default kernel. Later on you can assign the value memdisk to your Fairy Groups. The parameter memdisk is needed if your image is a DOS based floppy Image.
FTP SERVER:
IP Number of your FTP Server. Fairy downloads the action scripts via anonymous FTP from <FTP SERVER>/<FTP ROOT>/templates.
FTP ROOT:
FTP virtual directory where the subfolder templates will be placed. Please see also section FTP SERVER. As soon Fairy Clients are booted they will access this folder to retrieve their actions.
FTP UNC:
Windows path to the Fairy virtual FTP Diretory. The subfolder templates will be placed there. More action templates can be found in your <Aloaha Root>/templates folder or can be downloaded from:
http://www.aloaha.com/download/scripts.zip. To use them you need to copy them to <FTP UNC>\templates\
On a standard windows server FTP UNC might be C:\Inetpub\ftproot\ or \\<FTP SERVER>\Inetpub\ftproot\ Please note that this UNC Path is essential for Fairy to be able to generate and assign the scripts for your Fairy Groups and Hosts.
