Aloaha PDF Suite Server Edition

Per default Aloaha is being installed in so called "Application Mode". The Aloaha Service is being started via shortcut in the Startup Group of the Windows Start Menu. This configuration guarantees that per windows session/logged on user one Aloaha instance is running. For example in Terminal Service or Citrix Metaframe environments.

Sometimes it might be important that independent of the logged user only one instance of Aloaha is running. This so called “Server Mode” needs to be configured manual.

To re-configure Aloaha to run as a Windows Service please follow the steps below:

1. Remove the Aloaha entry from the Startup Group of the Windows Start Menu and exit Aloaha via right mouse click on the Aloaha System Tray Icon.

2. Next please open the Windows Services Control Panel (services.msc) and re-configure the PDF Suite Service to start automatically. It is advised NOT to use User LocalSystem but to use a dedicated user. For example User Aloaha.

3. When you configure Aloaha please log on to windows with the same user as configured to run the service in step 2.

A special feature is the registry key HKLM\Software\Aloaha\pdf\callcmd.exe.
Once you set this key to string value “1” Aloaha will start the command prompt cmd.exe. Please note that the key callcmd.exe will be deleted automatically as soon cmd.exe started up.

Configure Aloaha as Windows Service (87,49 KB)

The Aloaha User

As hinted above it is sometimes a problem to run the PDF Suite Service as the Windows LocalSystem account.

As an alternative to the LocalSystem Account it is also possible to create a user Aloaha and reconfigure the PDF Suite Service to log on as Aloaha user.

The advantage of the Aloaha user is that it is possible to log on interactive as Aloaha to the system to make some changes and configurations for that user. It is not possible to log on to Windows as LocalSystem account!

Please make sure to give the User Aloaha enough rights to have fully access to the Aloaha PDF Suite installation folder,  to the windows printing subsystem and the Smart Card System! During evaluation it is advised just to give Aloaha administrative rights.

Please note that for the Server Mode the Aloaha PDF Suite Server Edition is required. In evaluation mode the full Server mode (except batch signatures) is enabled!

Should you require an evaluation license please contact aloaha@wrocklage.de
